My Blog

My co-worker had introduced me to blog so I would like to set up my own blog as well. Hopefully I can make us of this blog to share with my friends and relatives the many interesting moments in life (if I can keep updating it)!

So as my first post, I would like to tell you a little bit about my current job in Taiwan. For those who do not know yet, I have been working in Taipei for over a year now on the Taiwan High Speed Rail project. I work as a Rail Systems Engineer under the Taiwan Shinkansen Corporation, the Core System supplier to the future operator - Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation. The system is based on the Japanese Shinkansen System (Bullet Train) 7000 Series that operates at speeds of over 300km/h. The Taiwan network will run between Taipei and Kaohsiung (approximately 345km).

I am part of the system design team and have been working on the integration of the various subsystems under the Core System contract. The Core System contract is responsible for the design and supply of the following main subsystems: Train Control System, Signalling System, Electricfication System, Communications System and the Rolling Stocks (i.e. the trains). I am the System Integration Coordinator and to put it in layman's term, I make sure the subsystems are talking to each other properly to get the right messages across so that the trains can run properly.

Like I've said, I have been here in Taipei for over a year now while Margaret and Megan remain in Hong Kong. I go home every 2 weeks or so just for the weekend to spend some quality time with them. I think the part of not being there with them all the time has been the most difficult part.

In my next post, I will tell you a little bit more about my family now and hopefully I can post some pictures of us too. Feel free to drop you comments.

Finally Victor, non-blogger members like me can leave a comment.

Although I am not sure where Kaohsiung is, this project you're working on sounds really grand.

I always thought you were a civil engineer, but it turns out you know quite a lot about electrical systems as well.

Does your company pay for all your expenses and living costs? What about the fortnightly trips back to HK?

Hi Victor
The projects you are working on sounds very interesting. Hope you'll gain invaluable experience from this job.
The links to Google map and the various book collection are rather interesting.
